INTRODUCTION

Forbrain is the flagship product of Sound for Life and has inherited its science from the Tomatis Method, the most advanced program in Sound Therapy which has evolved over a period of sixty years. Forbrain is an award-winning neural device that has shown conclusive results in enhancing the speech, attentional strengthening, and focus. Built with bone conduction technology and a unique dynamic filter, the device provides the user instantaneous feedback of their own voice which creates an enhanced auditory-feedback loop.

Forbrain's dynamic filter helps people to significantly improve au

ditory and sensory processing thereby aiding the brain's cognitive functions including memory and attentiveness.

FORBRAIN'S AUDITORY TECHNOLOGY

What is the Auditory Feedback Loop?

It is the natural process by which every individual perceives, analyses, assimilates, and continuously adjusts the information received and produced through sound.

To function properly, this audio-vocal loop draws on the abilities of auditory discrimination, phonological awareness, and integration of rhythm that each person activates effortlessly. These skills are natural to human function and go far beyond speech. They are necessary for all learning processes.

How does Forbrain enhance the Auditory Feedback Loop?

Forbrain headphones amplify high-frequency vibration and simultaneously diminish low-frequency to help the user create and process sound. The patented electronic dynamic filter blocks out environmental noise—isolating and amplifying the user’s voice, giving the nervous system a solid sensory workout. It also enhances long vowels and other sounds critical for keeping the brain stimulated and alert. The resulting sound is delivered to the nervous system and the brain through bone conduction which is 10 times faster than air conduction.

The user hears their own voice filtered with alternating contrasts. This shifting of sound or alternation will occur mainly at the beginning of spoken words and long vowels; they are also called the “clear sounds” that are essential for building language. By hearing and choosing this new perception of sound play, the user instantly and subconsciously improves cortical stimulation. A continuous workout with Forbrain headphones leads to:

  • Cortical Stimulation - essential for memory, speech, learning, attention, and social communication.
  • Vestibular Stimulation - essential for managing motion, core stability, motor planning, balance, and spatial orientation.

MEMORY AND FORBRAIN

One of the key principles of neuroplasticity is the retraining of the human brain to improve memory. In addition to enhancing speech and listening, Forbrain's technology is used to treat for cognitive functions especially memory by retraining the brain.

What is Short-term Memory?

Short-term memory is the type of memory that holds onto information while we process it. It affects many of the brain's cognitive processes and the ability to learn and store new information, executing correct body movement and motor functions, communicating with others etc. It affects our abilities to:

  • Imprint information into long-term memory
  • Effectively communicating with others
  • Learning and storing new information
  • Lack of mental clarity
  • Accurately carrying out movements and postures related to motor skills
  • Retrieving previous learned information

Causes of Short-term Memory Loss

  • Side effects of previous or ongoing medication
  • Emotional trauma
  • Insomnia
  • Injuries to the brain
  • Stroke
  • Dementia
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment
  • Various Types of Amnesia

Ways to improve Short-term Memory Function

Short-term memory can be effectively improved by doing the following recommended activities:

  • Board Games - Board games that focus on using memorization or matching can be fun and effective ways to exercise your short-term memory
  • Reading and Singing - Read out loud text or verses from your favorite book or practice singing using Forbrain. Repetitive use of your voice exercises and trains your brain. When you speak or read aloud using the Forbrain headset, your own voice activates these auditory pathways in your brain enabling you to access memory more easily. Daily use of Forbrain supports improved memory
  • Puzzles and Math Games - Sudoku, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzels and number games are all helpful in preserving short term memory
  • Mnemonics and Acronyms - Super Heroes Must Eat Oats (Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Eerie, Lake Ontario)
  • Exercise - Exercising has been observed to boost and optimize memory functions and improve spatial memory
  • Meditation - Meditation helps control certain brain functions that help filter out distractions and create an optimal environment for memory function
  • Sleep - For improved cognitive performance, it is recommended to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Sleep is extremely vital in maintaining memory functions.

A vast number of families from around the world has observed significant improvements in memory functions after using Forbrain. One mother observed how her 13-year old was able to memorize large amounts of data by wearing he headset for 15 minutes a day. Even in a classroom setting, a teacher found Forbrain to be useful for kids to memorize multiplication tables and time tables.

The impact on memory has now led to Forbrain being used by seniors trying to offset cognitive decline.

APPLICATION & ACTIVITIES

Who can use Forbrain?

Forbrain is a universal tool, it can be used by anyone from the age three and above. Forbrain is recommended by over 5000+ professionals around the world as the go-to tool to improve learning.

Activities to do with Forbrain

Forbrain can be used as a stand-alone home-based tool or as a complementary tool to various therapies. To ensure successful results, users are recommended to practice daily for 20 minutes for at least 40 days. The following are a few examples of how one could utilize the device independently and jointly:

  • Individually – Read books or articles aloud, complete pronunciation and conversation exercises in native or foreign languages, practice monologues, review previous lessons, sing, etc.
  • With a partner/parent – Perform playwright literature, quiz vocabulary pronunciation and memorization, participate in role-playing games, etc.
  • With a professional – Run through any variety of verbal exercises during work sessions with a therapist, teacher, or coach.

Posture for using Forbrain for improved Attention

  • Sit up straight without stooping or arching your back, place your feet flat on the floor, and your head rests naturally and relaxed on the top of your spine.
  • Remove all multimedia distractions from your vicinity while practicing with Forbrain.

Repetitive use of your voice exercises and trains your brain. These repetitive exercises tap into areas of the Cochlea, which connect through the auditory pathways to your verbal and short-term memory. When you speak or read aloud using the Forbrain system, your own voice activates these auditory pathways in your brain enabling you to access memory more easily. Daily use of Forbrain supports improved memory.

SCIENTIFIC RESULTS

A scientific case study (2.1) by Carles Escera, PhD, Professor, Director of Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior, University of Barcelona was conducted to study "speech, auditory processing and attentional strengthening with Forbrain".

He concluded that "The results suggest that Forbrain could be helpful in improving focus in those who have attention disorders such as ADHD, and those who have difficulties with speech production and auditory processing. Moreover, any improvement in attention, such as was demonstrated in this study, could have benefits to everyone on memory, focus and fluency."
